It really is nice to see design so well executed that it speaks to you in a very direct and clear way. Something that few designers can achieve - and fewer clients that understand the value design can deliver. This packaging design for Premium Ice Cream Simply Bliss was posted on designerID the other day by Peter McClelland, a Designer & Brand Strategist based in Saigon, Vietnam.
What is unique about these three images is that they were self-driven projects. Mark Lindsey, a photographer based in Cincinnati, joined our site today and posted these images with some other portfolio pieces. These were really nice and each one made me take a second look. I was surprised to see that they were self driven and it made me think about something I just discussed with students at a recent AIGA portfolio review. If you want to do better work or want to do work for a given industry or client then you need to do that type of work, even if it is self driven. I am almost positive this is the case with Mark's work. Great stuff and it certainly conveyed to me that he can do quality work for each of those markets. It also reinforces to me that we all have extra time and what we do with that time separates the successful designers from those not as successful. Thank you Mark for posting and I will certainly reccommend you to any of my clients.
Highly recommend spending a bit of time to watch this video of Seth Godin making a presentation at Google's headquarters. He notes many examples of good marketing to reinforce to google that great technology is great, but that great marketing is always better and usually wins.
This past Friday the newly designed Brian Hock Design site quietly launched. The previous site served its purpose well for three years but was neglected like most designer sites as it was hard to update and required outside programming help. This new site was designed by designerID member Matthew Sanders and it was a very smooth development process. The backend uses textpattern and is now very easy to update any page in the site. So please check it out and let me know what you think.
