In(Spire)ing!

Came across a news article this monring about this magnificent building, called The Chicago Spire, being proposed for development in Chicago, USA.

According to the architect, Santiago Calatrava, “The Chicago Spire will make Chicago’s skyline the most beautiful experience of the 21st century and will begin a new legacy of tall buildings."  I have no doubt this will redefine world-class urban living. Having been to Chicago many times I feel this will create a nice peak for the shoreline and compliment Navy Pier, which juts into Lake Michigan. You can check out the details of the project at www.thechicagospireonline.com and I would recommend visiting Santiago’s site simply for inspiration.

Thinking of Sports.

Fatih Senay, an art director with Sports Net Turkey, posted these images today on designerID and I thought I should show them again in case anyone missed them. The whole campaign for radyospor is extremely well art directed and designed. I only pulled two of the ads for this post, so be sure to view all four of them. Fatih is based out of Istanbul, Turkey. Well done Fatih.

X Marks The JotSpot.

This is one to watch. JotSpot was bought by Google and they are in the process of integrating their wiki technology to create a very competitive (and better in my opinion) suite of tools for business productivity, collaboration and community. Note that they are not taking on new users until the integration is complete.

I’m a Twit. Are you?

I follow a blog called MicroPersuasion by Steve Rubel and he has been blogging about a social networking site called Twitter. He warned that it is addicting. I will let you be the judge. Once you are on be sure to make me a friend - I am "ideaguy".

Confronted with a designer.

I went to grab a bracket at cbssportsline.com for the upcoming NCAA basketball tournament and was confronted with this graphic designer. Her name is Kristin and she works in Manchester, Maryland. This is cobranding at its best between Maxim Magazine and CBS Sportsline. I clicked on the image as I wanted to see where she worked but the information was scarce. If you are curious, she is 5'2", 105 lbs. and enjoys a chicken quesadilla. Any guesses on her favorite font? Bodoni Bold perhaps.

Unexpected. Cool Church...I mean House.

Our local chapter of the AIGA just had our annual board retreat where we figure out what path we are on and what path we want to take going forward. The venue was at a board member's house and it really was a nice surprise and a wonderful location to undertake such an effort. The house was a completely remodeled church and the member did a phenominal job keeping the integrity of the building. It really should be on a show like "This old church." The photo above is of the view as you enter the house. It was a great day talking about design in a very unique setting.
