Ohhh Canada.

Things have been hopping with designerID and a new interview with Canadian designer Chris Zawada will be a nice addition to our growing list of designers. He is a senior designer with the Fleming Creative Group out of Vancouver. Look for it to be posted sometime in the April.

I should also mentioned we just finished an interview with David Chanpong of Abercrombie & Fitch. He is a Design Manager working out of their headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. And we just confirmed that we will be doing an interview with Liza Butler, a Design Manager with E & J Gallo Winery.

Type Talking

This is a really nice use of typography and motion that was posted on motionographer.com. Certainly one of the best ones I've seen recently.

SCAD student Jarratt Moody is in Time-based Typography I here at SCAD (a course for which I’m currently the teaching assistant), and he recently finished up a really nice piece for the first project in the class. The basic idea of the project is to take a piece of audio from wherever (movie, song, poetry reading, answering machine) and then represent that audio on screen using only typography.

China. Ahead!

This picture was taken by a chinese person and powerfully depicts their vision of where that country is heading in relation to technology. It sure seems like there are many influences at play in this image. I like that she is holding a Apple laptop. Apple's new iphone (which will not be limited by hardware) should be poised to take a nice chunk of the cell phone market in China. Image was originally uploaded by blogger·china.

Corporations 2.0

What if corporations updated their logos to be more web 2.0. I came across this post on Micro Persuasion and then hopped over to the flicker image. Love the comments about the various ones - especially how nothing has been done to the at&t logo. Very cool.

BGSU Embraces designerID

What a wonderful visit to Bowling Green State University (BGSU) this last weekend to share designerID.com and a bit of my design background with faculty and students. The day (February 2, 2007) consisted of an informal meeting with faculty, tour of the relatively new school of art building, sitting in and providing input for a typography and Interactive class and then the presentation at 5:00 pm. It was a great turnout given the temprature was about 5 degrees with a wind chill of about minus 10 degrees (and it was a Friday on a college campus). I estimate between 150-200 people attended the presentation.

The BGSU faculty that came out to see the presentation included (from left to right) Todd Childers, Paul Obringer, Jenn Stucker, Ron Jacomini, (me), Matt Davis, Patrick Kirk, Amy Fidler and Lori Young.

Matt Davis, Chair of the Graphic Design Program, did a great job organizing the day and being a gracious host. The BG Graphic Design Club also provided some nice gifts upon my arrival that set a nice tone for the visit. I would like to thank all of those involved with the visit including Bowling Green State University, School of Art, Jenn Stucker (Typography Class), Amy Fidler & Lori Young (Interactive Classes),  Ryan Gallagher (Alumni Affairs) and of course Matt Davis for spending most of the day with me.
